Canadian Minor STEAM Association

Coaching Academy

For a limited time, educators receive FREE training on robotics, hands-on coding and STEM programming through the InkSmith CMSA Coaching Academy.

Welcome to the Canadian Minor STEAM Association (CMSA) Coaching Academy!

The CMSA Coaching Academy certifies coaches for the Canadian Minor STEAM Association - a national network of regional clubs making STEAM a minor sport for K-8 youth through hands-on coding, robotics and STEM programming.

The Coaching Academy includes 2 certification streams: League coaches and classroom educators. The program provides the training and professional development you need to introduce digital skills and coding-related concepts with your CMSA club or into your classroom.

The Canadian Minor STEAM Association and the CMSA Coaching Academy are made possible with funding from the Government of Canada's CanCode 3.0 program.

STEAM:
A New Sport for Kids

Just like in hockey, dance, soccer or gymnastics, kids join STEAM teams led by coaches for hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, creativity and the courage to follow their passions.

Course Bundles & Certifications

The Canadian Minor STEAM Association (CMSA) currently has two streams of certification courses: a Coach Certification for league programming and an Educator Certification for in-classroom delivery.

CMSA Educator Certification

Designed to help educators build confidence in coding, digital skills, and STEM competencies.

CMSA League Coach Certification

Designed to bring CMSA League Coaches up to speed on the topics, content, and activities that will run through the CMSA Leagues.

Level 1 Certification

In the Level 1 Certification course, participants will dive into basic coding and digital competency topics as well as explore popular coding platforms like Makecode, Scratch and TinkerCAD.

By the end of this course, participants will have a basic introduction and understanding of coding and digital skills.

Completion of this course will earn participants a Level 1 Certification badge from the CMSA.

Level 2 Certification

In the Level 2 Certification course, participants will get hands-on and discover coding and digital skill activities that can be run with students.

By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to run hands-on engaging activities to teach basic coding and digital skill concepts to students.

Completion of this course, combined with 6 hours of in-class delivery will earn participants a Level 2 Certification badge from the CMSA.

Level 3 Certification

In the Level 3 Certification course, participants will build on their learning in Level 1 & 2 by exploring more advanced coding and digital skill-building activities. Level 3 will also introduce the use of hardware in activities.

By the end of this course, participants should be well versed in running coding and digital skill activities with students using both hardware and software solutions.
