If you’ve recently purchased a
LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Set, getting organized before facilitating a lesson will help you keep your robotics kit organized, classroom managed, and most importantly, keep students engaged while developing critical STEAM skills.  

Here are some steps to help get you started:

Step 1: Unbox your LEGO SPIKE Prime kit 

If you have purchased a kit for your classroom, the first step is to unbox and organize all the elements. Here’s a few steps to get you started: 

  1. The handy storage bin comes with two sorting trays. Use the label stickers for easy sorting and cleaning up.  
  2. Open bags 1 to 8 and sort the small parts into the labeled compartments. Store the bigger elements under the sorting trays.
  3. Insert the rechargeable battery into the SPIKE Prime Hub.
  4. For teachers with more than one robotics kit, label the SPIKE Prime hardware components and the accompanying storage box to keep your classroom organized.

Step 2: Download the SPIKE App  

The SPIKE App is an essential part of the kit and brings learning to life.  In this app, you’ll find step-by-step tutorials and building instructions that will introduce you to the Hub, motors, and sensors, along with all the relevant SPIKE Prime resources needed to deliver lessons. Complete with a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface, mastering coding is simple, even for beginners.  

  1. Download the SPIKE App to your tablet or computer.
  2. Don’t forget to name your Hub when first setting up. Giving each Hub a distinct name helps differentiate them and keeps your classroom organized.
  3. Enable Bluetooth connectivity on tablets and computers to connect to the Hub.

Step 3: Start Learning!

With the SPIKE App educators have access to comprehensive curriculum, including 5 units of 45-minute STEAM lesson plans.

  1. To begin, simply follow the steps below: Start with the “Getting Started” tutorials and get to know how to use the Hub, sensors, and motors.
  2. Follow the unit plans within the app or download them to use them offline.
  3. It’s time to experiment, test, and build your new creations!
  4. When the lesson is done use the storage bin to neatly store the components.

Step 4: Unlock Classroom Creativity
